For the first time in Central Florida, a Ladies Only Cycling event was held benefiting the Coalition for the Homeless Women and Children of Central Florida.

On Sunday, March 29th, I participated in the Ladies On Wheels in a one-day women-only cycling event through Saint Cloud, Florida. I decided on the 33-mile ride.  This was my second organized charity ride.  It was a fun and challenging experience in which women’s will, mental determination, and physical condition were put to the test for one great cause.

The day: The temperature started in the high 60’s. It was advertised to be a beautiful day without the expectation of the notorious Florida wind. My ride started at 7:30 am, along with the 70 mile and 15-mile rides.

We started on time. The breeze and the sun provided the perfect temperature for a great day for riding.  The course took us through the scenic roads of St Cloud. Several of my fellow riders were not able to ride due to injuries. As it turned out, one of our team’s most involved members didn’t leave me to ride alone — he stepped up that day of the ride and signed up, even though it was “ladies only”. The event didn’t mind – it was in support of a great cause. For me, this allowed me to feel like I was not riding alone in the midst of strangers.  Riding with a male team member in this kind of ride didn’t seem strange for me, but some of the men standing around waiting for their ladies to get back wished they would have joined.

This ride was great for so many reasons:  My second +30 mile ride; a beautiful scenic route, supporting a great cause and pushing myself to be a better rider.

Not just a ride, I provided help for women and children!

This is the course charted by one of our team members as we rode in a pack the entire route.

Again thanks for your support. It has made the ride easier. In addition, you earned some brownie points with me!
