On Saturday, TeamOne members (Diana & Z) joined other cyclists in the Orlando area for the Peloton Cyclist Club (PCC) Ride #3. This was an opportunity to train for the upcoming ADA Tour de Cure with a large group.

PCC (http://pelotoncyclistclub.com) is a fun and unique company that has set out to unite the cycling community. TeamOne members joined in for 40 miles of beautiful country riding through Winter Springs. Another chance for some of the Team to get some training preparation for the ADA Tour de Cure (http://main.diabetes.org/goto/TeamOne) in March 2017.

All PCC rides are fully supported with mechanical and nutritional support before, during, and after the events. PCC will have designated fully stocked SAG stops along the route to meet every rider’s need.

The Ride

The day started early for the Team members, especially on a Saturday, but everyone was ready to go at the 8:00 start time! With the days getting shorter and slightly cooler, 8:00 was an excellent start time. The morning was wonderfully clear. This ride started at the Red Cypress Brewery (http://redcypressbrewery.com). The group knew it was going to end at that spot, too, which was quite an incentive for some (food would be waiting).

This ride had a large group of riders ready to go. The group started out and warmed up for the first mile at a pace of around 16.5 mpg. Then the speed picked up a bit — to 19mph. With a strong leader pulling the cyclists, the paced seemed effortless.

Before long, there was the first SAG stop 20 miles into the ride. As usually the PCC crew was ready and waiting for the riders. Bananas, trail mix, water, Gatorade — all the things everyone was ready for. Spirits were high, even though a few crazy drivers had passed the group.

After the SAG stop, the team got back on the road for another 20 miles.  The pace was comfortable and the scenery continued to be beautiful.  And … what would the day be without the infamous Florida wind. Yes, there it came. and the next 20 miles was into a strong headwind. With excellent riders switching off to pull, the 20 miles passed almost as quickly as the first 20, if not as easily. The cyclists finished at a good pace of 19 mph average overall.

And just as promised, there was plenty of food and drinks waiting at The Red Cypress Brewery. Riders hopped off their bikes after a few cool down laps, got bikes lovingly put away, and started to enjoy some well-earned refreshments. They passed away time visiting, relating past adventures on other rides, and reaping the reward of a delicious lunch. What a fantastic way to start a day — a great ride, the company of friends, and the Red Cypress Brewery was a great place to end the ride on such a beautiful Saturday morning!

PCC once again made sure cyclists had a great day!! Check out what they have to offer at their website: http://pelotoncyclistclub.com
