The Ride

The day started at 75.2 degrees with a nice temperate breeze. Since the Resort is by Gulf the humidity level was very manageable. Two groups were formed 20(+) and 17 mph. I was taking a relaxing ride today so I rode with the 17 mpg group.

It was a good easy ride with the exception of the last 2 miles when someone broke from the pack and did a sprint to the finish. Of course, I followed in pursuit reaching speeds of 28.2 mph. Yes, I dropped 2 riders the last 2 miles but once I reached the end of the route I doubled back to ride back with them. I don’t ever leave anyone that I don’t go back for.

Presenters

One speaker after the other was providing their personal experience as to why they support the American Diabetes Association. Each of these speakers commanded attention in their commentary and were very personable with their lighthearted comedic statements sprinkled throughout their conversation with the audience.

Congressman Buchanan discussed the cost on the community, what healthy communities’ needs are in infrastructures as it pertains to trails, how the elimination of diabetes can improve the quality of life for all.

Wayne drove home a great point that this Tour not only gives companies exposure, a feeling they are doing “good”, priceless networking opportunities but also improves corporate culture – resulting in happier and more productive employees!

Suzi discussed the facts and what the actual cost to companies this devastating disease has and the need to motivate our companies to get healthy and get involved to ultimately Stop Diabetes.
After the Keynote speakers finished their personal commentary and the meeting was over, I think all in attendance felt the meeting was driving home the importance of the work that is being done at the American Diabetes Association.
