The Ride

Summer in Florida is HOT, HUMID, and Windy. While tourists escape their daily lives for a trip to Florida, TeamOne members know that summer is brutal at times for riding. Today was no exception.

The new jerseys sport the team’s logo on the front. The back displays their familiar route for inspiration. The group rides so often on this particular stretch, that a picture of the road with the bike lane became its standard identifier and found its way onto the jersey. Breathable jerseys made a difference for this training ride.

To kick off the summer, the team had 2 start times. One for the early birds, about 7:30 am before the heat becomes intolerable, and one for the start of a recovery ride.

Rolling out at 7:30, the cyclists soon found that an early start didn’t matter. It was already hot. Plenty of water and rotating lead from time to time helped. First 20 miles down with no incidents.

After a break, getting ready for the 2nd start, the original 4 cyclists with additional TeamOne members (Dawn, Shawn, & Ruben) got ready to roll out. It was HOT now. The recovery ride turned into a ride that was only slightly slower than the first round. Technically not a recovery ride at all! The team pushed through the heat and humidity for a strong finish.

After 2 rounds of riding, cold water and some nourishment at the local gathering place welcomed this group. A little visiting, a lot of air conditioning, and plenty of sunshine made for a great start to a weekend.
