Cycle the City…. Sounds a little fantabulous, a little extreme, and a whole lot of fun!!

TeamOne participated in the Florida Hospital’s Cycle the City bike ride in support of their quest to help children fight childhood obesity through the Florida Hospital for Children’s Mission: Fit Possible Program. Mission: Fit Possible is an educational and health promotion initiative focused on promoting health and wellness and preventing childhood obesity among kids ages 2-18.  As a team that supports the ADA Tour de Cure, this was a likely candidate for our members to support. The event raised over $32,128 and still counting!

Riders had several options on how far to ride. TeamOne members decided that they were ready for the 60 mile route since the weather looked like it was cooperating with a slight overcast which lasted the entire route. It was sunny without the humidity and heat that is so common in Florida.

The Cycle the City event took the team through more than just the city. There was terrain to please everyone (or maybe that is “challenge everyone”). The team started off in on the flat roads of Orlando. Soon, though, they were climbing hills. The reward for the effort in climbing hills was the thrill of speeding down and enjoying some breeze along the way. Natures and cows greeted bikers along they way. And what is a city without streets and stop lights. Riders, including the team, successfully navigated a bit of traffic. Fortunately there were police at the busy intersections to help keep everyone safe along the way.

Of course, hydration and nutrition is an important part of cycling. There were stops along the way staffed by encouraging volunteers. Refueling options included cold water and Gatorade, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, bananas, pickles and pickle juice, trail mix, and even a bit of Halloween candy. The best part, though, was the warm greeting and cheers every rider had at the stops!

With all of the support and their own determination, the TeamOne members successfully completed the challenging 60 miles together as One!
