Sunday morning on March 15, 2019, 2 weeks away the ADA Lake Nona Tour de Cure 2020 coming up on March 29, 2020. TeamOne members (Catherine, & Z) kicked training up a notch in preparation for the approaching Metric Century.

The start time was 11 am. Thought the start was a late one the weather was in the low 70’s and the wind almost non-existent at 3 mph.

The Ride

A beautiful clear, cool morning greeted the team. Having had a warm week with temperatures in the 80’s, the riders were pleasantly surprised by mild temperatures today.

The goal: 50 miles. Unlike last week’s ride, the first few miles were a precursor of things to come averaging 18 mph. The wind was slight in the beginning and remained moderate the entire ride. It seems that mother nature took pity on them for beating they received last weekend.

With no clouds in sight, the weather maintained a moderate temperature to Florida’s standards. The humidity was ever-present but at a low of 46%. The breaks were roughly ever 20 miles and the last one at Dunkin Donuts which is approximately 8 miles before the end of the ride. Each 20-mile break was on or about 10 minutes in length, and 5 minutes for the last one. Plenty enough time to stretch and get the blood flowing, refill water bottles, and have a little conversation to help break up the ride. The team was back on the road for the last 8 miles. The wind increased to a moderate 9 mph coming from the NE which is a headwind on the return home! The 2 riders continuing to switch off as lead which made the miles pass quickly. The music kept the team moving at a brisk pace on the last leg of the ride. The last two stoplights always seem like the hardest point of the ride to the riders. Then finally Finished!! Achieving an 18.0 mph average at the finish. Another training ride in the books!

As always when the team comes together this training day was filled with great conversation, camaraderie, and the beautiful, weather in Florida.
