On April 18th, I got together with my teammates on TeamOne from SAIC at the Lake Nona Town Center for the 2021 Tour de Cure.  We had decided to ride 30+ miles today, in honor of the 34 million Americans living with Diabetes.

It was a pretty typical day for riding in Lake Nona, a little windy, not too bad, all of it coming from the south.  It was a bit of an effort to head south for the first half of the ride, but really not bad and our Captain had us switching positions so that no one was in the lead for too long.

Once we turned and headed back north, it was another thing entirely.  🙂 The wind was at our backs and the effort now was to not wipe ourselves out flying at 20+ mph for long periods of time.  It was glorious!

Before we knew it, we’d reached the end of the ride.  We took a bunch of pictures and rode just across the street to the coffee shop, where we spent the rest of the morning enjoying coffee and conversation with friends.  It was about as perfect as a ride gets.

Incidently, I made Achived Champion Level Champion, thanks to all my supporters. I was able to raise $1,808 towards the fight against diabetes!

Stats for the day

his was recorded by one of my team members who rode the 30-mile course with the group.

More important, your contributions help the many with diabetes. You know it’s one thing for diseases to affect older people who have learned to cope with adversity but a disease that affects youngsters is especially cruel. Just the name “juvenile diabetes” is a reason why we have to push for a cure. In addition, for your help, all I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you!  If you would like to read our team story go to: https://teamonecycle.com/2021/04/lake-nona-fl-ada-tour-de-cure-15/.

Next year, I may try riding the metric century course. Hopefully, you will still lend your support. I will ride on behalf of those who can’t and in memory of many.

Again thanks for your support. Regards,

Shawn
